Japanese fashion powerhouse Uniqlo is reportedly looking to sign a historic partnership deal with MLB¡¯s Los Angeles Dodgers, where baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani currently plays.
According to media reports, Uniqlo ¡ª a subsidiary of major Japanese retail company Fast Retailing ¡ª will see the firm become Dodger Stadium¡¯s official field presenting partner, marking the first time the stadium will have a sponsorship agreement since it opened in 1962. Uniqlo did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation.
The deal would grant the company the rights to rename the playing field to ¡°Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium.¡± The name of the stadium itself, located in Los Angeles¡¯ Chavez Ravine, will be retained.
Three Japanese stars currently play for the back-to-back World Series-winning Dodgers: Ohtani and pitchers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki.
The trio has played a major role in the team¡¯s balance sheet ¡ª especially Ohtani. Since the superstar joined the team in 2024, the Dodgers have seen an increase in sponsorships by Japanese companies, including deals with All Nippon Airways and Ito En, the company behind Oi Ocha.
According to calculations by one expert, the three players generated an economic impact of ?132.8 billion ($833 million) during last year¡¯s postseason run.
Uniqlo, which opened its first international store in 2001, has grown into a global fashion behemoth in recent years. It currently has over 1,700 outlets outside of Japan, 77 of which are located in the U.S., where the stores¡¯ popularity as well as name recognition is continuing to rise.
Recent figures show that in the quarter between September to November 2025, sales revenue in North America increased by nearly 25% compared with the same period the previous year.
The firm has been actively increasing its presence in the community as well, donating around $1 million worth of clothes and other supplies, as well as some $1 million in aid, to Los Angeles after major fires tore through parts of the city in January last year.
The retail giant has been advancing into the sports world over the past few decades, with the Dodger Stadium contract being the most recent move.
Since first signing a sponsorship contract with then-professional wheelchair tennis player Shingo Kunieda in 2009, Fast Retailing has expanded its network of sponsored athletes ¡ª which now includes notable athletes such as tennis stars Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori and Olympic medal-winning snowboarder Ayumu Hirano.
