Hungarian lawmakers are set to oust the Viktor Orban-allied president as Prime Minister Peter Magyar seeks a clean break from his nationalist predecessor.

The constitutional amendment is almost certain to pass given the two-thirds parliamentary majority Magyar¡¯s Tisza party wields in parliament. The vote follows April¡¯s election that dealt a landslide defeat to Orban, ending a 16-year rule that had been rife with corruption.

Magyar has pledged to rebuild the rule of law in the European Union member state after his predecessor cracked down on civil society and independent media as he sought to create a self-styled illiberal state.
