The Gunma Prefectural Police have arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of attacking another man, who was later confirmed dead, in a facility that supports people with disabilities in the city of Shibukawa.

Hiroshi Takeda, a resident at Shikishima, the facility, was arrested Saturday for allegedly going on top of Masataka Fukuoka, 40, also a resident there, and trampling on his abdomen and neck at around 4:30 a.m. that day, police said, in what they believe was an attempt to kill him.

Takeda denied the allegations, reportedly telling investigators that he didn¡¯t intend to kill.

A staff member of the facility found Fukuoka lying down in a corridor at around 6 a.m. the same day and reported to police. He was taken to the hospital and confirmed dead.

When police rushed to the scene, Takeda was in his room on the second floor of the facility. Fukuoka was living in another room on the same floor, and police believe there was some kind of a trouble between the two.

Four employees were on duty at the facility at the time, but none of them witnessed the attack.

The employee who made an emergency call reportedly told police that Fukuoka was safe when they checked at around 4 a.m.
