A 44-year-old man was arrested in the city of Saiki, Oita Prefecture, Monday after four people were attacked with a knife near a Tsutaya book and DVD rental shop, according to police.
An emergency call was made at around 9:45 a.m., in which the caller said a man had been stabbed with a knife.
Four people ¡ª a woman under 20, two men in their 60s and a man in his 80s ¡ª suffered injuries after they were either stabbed or slashed at the store¡¯s parking lot and other unspecified locations. They have been taken to the hospital and all of them are conscious, according to authorities.
About 15 minutes after the first call, police received a report from a nearby medical facility about a knife-wielding man. A police officer rushed to the scene to take the suspect, identified as one Hiroshi Noshita, into custody.
Noshita has admitted to possessing a knife and police are investigating the case, believing he attacked the four people.
