Shinnosuke Abe resigned as Yomiuri Giants manager on Tuesday, a day after being arrested for allegedly assaulting his teenage daughter at their home, in a stunning fall from grace for one of the most celebrated figures in the storied history of Japan¡¯s most famous sports franchise.

Abe, 47, was arrested at his home in Shibuya Ward on Monday night and, according to the Metropolitan Police Department, has admitted to the allegations. He was later released from police custody.?

Abe reportedly pushed down his 18-year-old daughter during a dispute at the family¡¯s home. Abe¡¯s wife and 15-year-old daughter were also at home during the incident. Abe had been trying to break up an argument between his daughters and was angered when his eldest daughter spoke back to him during the dispute, according to police. The former baseball star was said to have been drunk at the time.
