Ahead of the 81st anniversary of Korea¡¯s liberation from Japanese colonial rule, South Korean ambassador to Japan Lee Hyuk said the two countries ¡°need to strengthen cooperation¡± to address an increasingly severe international environment.
¡°South Korea and Japan have much in common in terms of the security landscape they face,¡± he told The Japan Times in a recent interview, calling closer bilateral ties an ¡°imperative of our time.¡±
The remarks come as strategic competition intensifies across East Asia.
