Governments worldwide are moving to keep children off social media amid growing concerns over smartphone addiction, cyberbullying, sexual exploitation and exposure to harmful and radical content.
France¡¯s parliament approved a ban on children under the age of 15 using social media, while the U.K. moved to restrict access for those under 16, adding momentum to a global push for age-based controls. Australia has already barred children under 16 from major platforms, while Indonesia and Malaysia have followed with similar restrictions.
But what about Japan? The country has so far resisted imposing a blanket age ban, with its approach instead focused on stricter age verification, safer platform settings and greater responsibility for technology companies.
