Japanese tax authorities have dismissed a 25-year-old official for defrauding a wealthy woman he was auditing and evading roughly ?135 million in taxes on gambling winnings obtained with the stolen money.
Yasunari Matsuo, at a tax office in Ibaraki Prefecture, was served with the disciplinary dismissal by the Kanto-Shinetsu Regional Taxation Bureau on Friday. Authorities referred the official to prosecutors on suspicion of fraud and filed a criminal complaint for violating the income tax law.
The authorities said Matsuo is suspected of defrauding the woman of a total of about ?150 million over several years while he was working at a tax office in Saitama Prefecture.
