Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Monday that Japan would neither impose fuel-saving measures nor compile a supplementary budget, signaling confidence in the country¡¯s energy response as it seeks alternative oil supplies amid disruptions caused by the Strait of Hormuz blockade.

¡°I have heard various suggestions ¡ª including proposals to encourage reduced fuel use ¡ª but I do not believe this is the time to slow economic activity,¡± Takaichi told the Upper House Budget Committee. ¡°That is why we are working urgently to secure the fuel supplies needed overall.¡±

Her remarks followed comments earlier this month by a senior government official who said the government would not ask businesses or households to curb electricity or petroleum consumption at least until after the Golden Week holiday period in late April and early May.
