Translation

A temple in Seki, Gifu Prefecture, has been seeing a threefold surge in the number of visitors since late October, as a rugby boom led to the discovery that the Buddha statue there resembles a star Japanese player preparing to kick. The 3-meter-tall statue at the Seki Zenkoji Temple clasps its hands together in a peculiar style that conjured up the image of rugby player Ayumu Goromaru in rugby fans¡¯ minds. Temple master Shunkai Sato said several visitors told him about the resemblance between the statue and Goromaru¡¯s signature pose during the Rugby World Cup in England. The priest then made a Facebook post about the statue, generating even more buzz. The statue came to Japan from China about 100 years ago, according to the priest.
