Organizers of summer festivals and fireworks shows are being forced to reschedule amid intensifying risks of extreme weather, such as heat waves and heavy rain.
While some say the tradition of summer festivals need to be preserved, organizers say the most important thing is protecting people¡¯s lives.
Saga Joka Sakae no Kuni Matsuri, a major festival held every year in the city of Saga, used to take place in early August. However, after 14 visitors to the festival suffered from heatstroke in 2024, the organizers moved up the schedule by around 2? months last year.
