After the Centrist Reform Alliance¡¯s (CRA) crushing defeat in February¡¯s Lower House election, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) and Komeito are now weighing whether to extend their hastily arranged merger from the lower chamber to the Upper House.
On Friday, leaders of the three parties agreed to form a consultative body to accelerate discussions on a wider three-party merger. CRA leader Junya Ogawa has been pushing for faster integration, while Komeito has signaled a greater willingness to move in that direction.
The CDP, however, remains wary of entering talks with a determined outcome.
