Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi was set to hold talks with his South Korean counterpart in Seoul on Sunday in a sign of the neighbors¡¯ vastly improved ties in the defense area.

Koizumi and South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back were expected to discuss a proposal to allow for the regular refueling by the Air Self-Defense Force aircraft from South Korea¡¯s Black Eagles aerobatic team. The ASDF last refueled the Black Eagles in January.

The pair were also likely to discuss ways to deepen broader defense cooperation, with Koizumi expected to renew Tokyo¡¯s call for signing a military logistics support pact, known as an acquisition and cross-servicing agreement (ACSA), with Seoul.
