The Tokyo District Public Prosecutor¡¯s Office on Monday decided to suspend indictment against Shinnosuke Abe, the former manager of Nippon Professional Baseball¡¯s Yomiuri Giants, who had been referred to prosecutors by police on suspicion of assaulting his eldest daughter.

¡°We took into account the nature of the alleged assault, the circumstances surrounding the case and other relevant evidence,¡± the office said.

On May 25, Abe was arrested on suspicion of grabbing his 18-year-old daughter by the collar and pushing her down at his home in Tokyo¡¯s Shibuya Ward. He was arrested at the scene and released before dawn on May 26.

¡°All the blame lies with me,¡± Abe, 47, said Monday in a statement released through his attorney. ¡°I feel nothing but regret.¡±

Abe announced his resignation as manager of the Giants at a news conference in Tokyo on the day of the incident. The Metropolitan Police Department sent papers on him to prosecutors on June 9.

According to the team, Abe allegedly assaulted the eldest daughter after she talked back to him when he tried to stop a quarrel between her and her younger sister. The eldest daughter was not injured.

Police officers from the MPD¡¯s Shibuya police station rushed to Abe¡¯s home after the eldest daughter reported the incident to a child consultation center on the advice of ChatGPT.
