Former Chinese Defense Ministers Wei Fenghe and Li Shangfu were on Thursday given suspended death sentences over corruption charges, state-run media said, highlighting how purges have shaken the country's military.
Both Wei and Li were once members of China¡¯s powerful Central Military Commission (CMC), the body that is headed by President Xi Jinping and commands the country¡¯s military. The pair were also former members of the State Council, China¡¯s Cabinet-level executive body.
According to the separate court rulings, Wei was convicted of accepting bribes, while Li was convicted of accepting and offering bribes, China¡¯s official Xinhua News Agency reported.
