The Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) has established two new offices to help integrate the use of drones, as Japan ramps up a push to further develop its unmanned capabilities, taking lessons from the wars in Ukraine and in the Middle East.

The GSDF held an inauguration ceremony on Monday in Tokyo for the creation of an Unmanned Defense Capability Promotion Office within the Policy & Program Division and an Unmanned Systems Office within the Logistics Management Division.

The promotion office will oversee the research and development of unmanned assets, while the systems office will focus on their procurement and maintenance for the GSDF. The two offices will have a total staff of 13.
