The Liberal Democratic Party is stepping up its calls for the opposition Democratic Party for the People to join the ruling coalition ¡ª even as the DPP continues to remain cautious toward the idea.
¡°I sincerely wish for the DPP¡¯s cooperation to restore political stability,¡± LDP Secretary General Shunichi Suzuki said at a Tuesday news conference. ¡°Achieving a three-party coalition would, I believe, firmly establish political stability in Japan.¡±
He added that any decision would have to be made in consultation with the LDP¡¯s coalition partner, the Japan Innovation Party (JIP), also known as Nippon Ishin no Kai. So far, JIP officials have said they would welcome the DPP joining the coalition.
