Gaming giant Sony Interactive Entertainment will stop manufacturing physical discs for its video games from January 2028.
In a July 1 post to the company¡¯s official , senior director of content communications Sid Shuman explained that the move to release all future PlayStation games as digital downloads is ¡°a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs.¡±
Games scheduled to release on physical media prior to January 2028 will remain unaffected, Shuman added. After that, however, ¡°new games will be available on (the online) PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats only.¡±
