The Iranian government has repressed its people’s democratic aspirations, often with considerable violence. In recent weeks, government forces reportedly killed over 30,000 people who took to the streets in protest over the government’s behavior. Iranian women have been forced to wear the veil, one symbol of the way that their rights and freedoms have been greatly restricted and their lives and opportunities diminished.
