The village of Hakuba in Nagano Prefecture posted the highest rate of increase in roadside land prices across Japan in 2026, marking the steepest price increase for three years in a row, according to National Tax Agency data released Tuesday.
The price for a plot in Hakuba rose 32.7% from a year earlier, increasing at a higher rate than in 2025 when the rate was 32.4%. The village of Nozawaonsen, also in Nagano Prefecture, came in second with a 31.3% rise, followed by the town of Kitanomine in Furano, Hokkaido, at 28%.
The three municipalities are renowned for ski resorts with high-quality powder snow that attract many tourists from abroad.
