Major food and beverage makers in Japan plan to raise prices for 2,566 items in July, driven by rising costs linked to tensions in the Middle East, research firm Teikoku Databank said Tuesday.

Higher crude oil and naphtha prices have pushed up the costs of packaging materials and raw materials, leading to price increases mainly for processed foods, including instant noodles, and bread products.

The number of items subject to price hikes increased by 21.9% from a year before, marking the first rise in seven months.

The survey covered 195 food and beverage makers.

By category, processed foods topped the list with 1,084 items, followed by bread products with 1,078 items.

Toyo Suisan Kaisha?will raise the suggested retail price of instant cup noodles, including its regular size Akai Kitsune Udon,?by 4% to 11%. Yamazaki Baking will increase the shipping price of white bread, including its Royal Bread series, by an average of 6.6%.

The cumulative number of food and beverage products subject to price hikes in 2026, based on those identified through November, reached 14,902, surpassing 10,000 items for the fifth consecutive year.

Teikoku Databank said food price increases are likely to peak by October, with the annual total potentially reaching 20,000 items.
