The Yodobashi-Ikebukuro commercial complex at the east exit of Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo opened on Tuesday, featuring?a Yodobashi Camera electronics store and a downsized Seibu department store after a full renovation.

The building, which previously housed Sogo & Seibu¡¯s flagship Seibu Ikebukuro department store, also houses sporting and variety goods stores and restaurants.

¡°We hope that local residents will enjoy it and that it will liven up the local area,¡± Yodobashi Holdings President Terukazu Fujisawa said Monday ahead of its opening.

In 2023, Sogo & Seibu was sold by major retailer Seven & i Holdings?to a U.S. investment fund, and the Ikebukuro store was ceded to Yodobashi Holdings, which teamed up with the fund for the acquisition.

In the new complex, the Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Ikebukuro store occupies parts of the first basement to fifth floors?and has a total sales floor space of about 33,000 square meters, making it one of the largest electronics retail stores in the Kanto region around Tokyo.

In addition to a wide-ranging product lineup, the store has a section in which customers can try all hair irons being offered and a section featuring over 3,000 types of capsule toy vending machines.

A store of sporting goods giant Ishii Sports, a Yodobashi Holdings unit, is located on the sixth floor, and a golf equipment store with a room where customers can try out golf clubs on the seventh floor. Restaurants, including a malatang spicy Chinese noodle restaurant, are on the eighth floor.

The Seibu Ikebukuro department store, currently undergoing renovation, will span from the second basement to eighth floors. Before its full opening this autumn or later, the cosmetics, food, foreign luxury brands and other sections will open in stages.
