Tokyo stocks and the yen rallied on Wednesday following a two-week ceasefire announced by the United States and Iran.?
The Nikkei 225 stock average traded up more than 4% minutes after the open, and climbed back to the 55,000 level for the first time in three weeks. It finished the day at 56,308.42, up 5.39%, and gained 2,878.86 points, the third-largest point gain ever.
The yen strengthened decisively to around ?158.7 to the dollar in the morning but fell against the euro. It was trading at about ?158.1 to the dollar in the afternoon. Japanese government bonds also strengthened.
