Rapidus has received another ?267.6 billion ($1.7 billion) in funding, with fresh investment coming from the government and the private sector, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced Friday.
The chipmaker is building a foundry for next-generation semiconductors in Chitose, Hokkaido, with just under half the total investment needed to get to mass production raised already.
In the recent round of funding, ?100 billion was invested by the government through the Information-technology Promotion Agency, while ?167.6 billion was committed by 32 companies, including Canon, Sony Group, SoftBank, Honda and Fujitsu.
